U-Haul Complaint - Bogus Repair Claims
TROY, NEW YORK -- My daughter helped a friend in Maine to rent a moving truck. Two weeks after returning the truck, and with no problems existing with the use of the truck, they charged $600.00 to my daughter's account for a "lost key"," gas charges", and a "broken mirror". When called about this unbelievable charge, she was told that they couldn't find the key to the truck, even though they said it was in a different parking space than when it was returned, there was not a 1/4 tank of gas when returned, which is untrue, because when the truck was returned, the driver was told by a UHaul employee that the gas gauge was just a sliver under a 1/4 tank, and had him put $3.00 of gas in the truck; then there's suddenly a broken mirror on the truck, which was not broken when rented/returned. Guess they just picked some damage and repair costs out of the air.
And two weeks after the fact. Another problem was that UHaul said "you didn't accept the "extra" insurance. Renters don't have to; there's already insurance in place in the contract. I hope the Attorney General's office has fun with this one.
