DirecTV Inc Complaint - Direct TV crooked and incompetent
CUPERTINO, CALIFORNIA -- I've had a series of problems with Direct TV. On one occasion I ordered an upgrade to an HD receiver. Direct TV's contractor did the installation and then stated that the received didn't come with any cables, but that he could sell me one for $40. After he left I read the receiver's material and learned that the contractor stole two cables out of the box and sold one of them to me. Direct TV was not apologetic about it, but they did credit my account $40.
Next I upgraded to an HD DVR and, just today, learned that they did not deactivate the receiver that the DVR was replacing. They've been charging for an extra receiver for a year. When I asked for a credit, they said they 'couldn't' in reality they 'wouldn't'.
Fed up about the over-charge I indicated that I'd be canceling my service and learned that upgrading to the DVR locked me into a 2 year commitment that was never disclosed. Turns out that when you sign for installation, included in the paperwork is the commitment.
These guys at Direct TV are as crooked as they come. It's too bad, because their TV service is quite good. Nonetheless, I'd avoid them like the proverbial plague.
Also, they spam the on-screen channel guide on the DVR with advertising. Nice way to treat your highest paying customers.
