See's Candies Complaint - Guilty Exchange - Exchange Complaint

Exchange Complaint - Complaint
Review by KarenY on 2008-12-14
SAN JOSE, CALIFORNIA -- I bought a box of Almond Royal for my daughter from a local store at San Jose, CA. After 30 minutes, I came back to the store and asked for exchange with this UNOPENED box of Almond Royal. The store employees immediately told me that "do you know we have to destroy the returned box even it is not opened because Dept. of Health requested". This statement made me feel frustrated and kind of guilty. Do the See's Candies employees have the right to tell me this in order to make me feel guilty that I might change my mind to take the Candie back?

I instead took back the box of Almond Royal but I feel I have been taken advantage and I will never stop by the See's Candie to buy any candies because what if next time I accidentally bought something that I would like to exchange and I have to suffer from another same statement from the employees?

What happened to complete customer satisfaction?

It's probably policy due to the fact, people probably have brought back candy items that they just re-shrink wrapped.

Just curious, what made change your mind??

It seems like a good policy. Once that candy has left the store, who knows what could have happened with it?

How do you accidentally buy a box of candy?

so next time you go to this store, make sure to ask for a box of 'returned' candy. even un-opened. doesn't sound to great does it?

Hey, if they allow exchanges, don't feel bad about it. They could simply not allow exchanges, but if they offered you one, you should have taken it. I'm sure the margin on a box of chocolates is more than enough to allow them to do an exchange.

I bought the box of Almond Royal based on the what my daughter told me on the phone. When I brought it back home, then my daughter told me it is not what she wanted. Therefore, I brought my daughter with me to the store for exchange something she really wanted.

Let me know if this is See's Candie company policy that the employees should advise the customers that they will have to destroy the returned candies when customers request an exchange?

I would rather they post a sign for return or exchange policy instead of saying such things in front of all the customers in the store and not even offer me an exchange or return for like 10 minutes. So in that 10 minutes, their attitude was like you better think it again and think it hard...

You ruined the product for resale at their loss. Maybe they mentioned it so you would be more sure next time. I don't think it was out of line if done tactfully.

If See's Candies is going to do the exchange then good for them but I agree with the OP there's no need for the guilt trip. What a bunch of whiners. If it were me I'd take my candy business elsewhere. Good review!

I was at a gas station awhile back and this guy came in the door to exchange a pack of smokes he had just purchased. Apparently he had walked out to the car with them and his woman said she wanted lights. The dude at the station wouldn't exchange them. He said it was against the law to, once the smokes leave the building.
I thought that was weird.

makes perfect sense. As long as the product hasn't left the store, they can sell it and know that it hasnt been tampered with. Once it leaves, who knows what's been injected into it.
