DirecTV Inc Informative - False Advertising
NORTH HOLLYWOOD, CALIFORNIA -- I contacted DIRECTV because of their "FREE PROFESSIONAL INSTALLATION" Free standard installation in up to 4 rooms, no equipment to buy, no start up costs" ad. I was shocked to find that they charged over $20 for "handling fees" on my credit card prior to the installation without my permission after they told me they wouldn't. When I contacted them before the installation, Amanda in customer service told me that it is free and why was I complaining about $19.99 plus tax? She then told me she couldn't reverse the charges until I actually had the service installed. She also chided me for being so stupid as to give the customer service representative my VISA card number stating, "You know they will charge you if you give them your number." She had no remark when I explained they wouldn't sign me up unless I showed them I was credit worthy. When I asked for the dispute office she said it would take days for the dispute office to contact me.
In the meantime, I should get the system installed. I cancelled the system installation. I see it was a good decision after reading the nightmares. This is clearly a case of false advertising so watch out. Free doesn't mean Free.
