Office Max Complaint - Bait & Switch/False Advertising
DAYTONA BEACH, FLORIDA -- The item was advertised on Sunday; the next day I get to the store before noon; there's no sign of the $29.99 file cabinets (plenty of them for $59.99 though!) and no one offers to help me as I wander the furniture aisle for 20 minutes. Finally ask the clerk; he checks in the back, then says they're all out; they should have a truck coming Weds. gives me a raincheck for the item. While I'm waiting on the clerk to check the backroom I talk to three other people who had come in for advertised items; none of which were available. They used to call this "bait & swtich"; the clerk offered me the $59.99 file cabinet, and it was supposedly not legal, considered "false advertising" but apparently these folks are getting away with it. I've called the store three times this past week and they still have none of the items available. I'm lodging a complaint with the FTC and the company as well. The whole store had the appearance of going out of business: "out of stock" sign tags were more numerous than equipment displays. Looks to me like they're on a fast track to bankruptcy.
