Ashley Furniture Informative - Does Not Stand By Warranty - Faulty Finish On Wooden Furniture
EVANSVILLE, INDIANA -- I knew exactly what I wanted to purchase - a round pub height oak dining table. I finally found what I thought was my dream table at Ashley Furniture in SW Indiana. However, after a few months, the finish on the table top began to flake off and the surface bubbled. Since I regularly used Liquid Gold on the table and took good care of it, I do not believe it was damaged by being in my home. When we took the table top down to the store, the manager said that it was water damage and that it was not covered by the warranty, that it was not a manufacturing fault.
Failure to properly finish a wooden product is a fault in the manufacturing. The finish was not properly applied.
After arguing with the manager, he "generously" offered to replace the top at a "special" discounted price. Since the top we had looked like it had sat out at a park in the rain for 2 years with NO protective finish, we purchased the new top. When my husband opened the box, he saw open grain on the table top, along with several nicks in the finish. We decided to cut our losses and not fight with the store again. He applied a finish coat to the table top so that it will not flake like the last one did, and we resolved never to purchase furniture at that store again.
By the way, after we initially received the table and accompanying chairs, I realized it was made in China.
So, in a nutshell, the furniture was not quality made, the store does not honor its warranties, and the manager was essentially rude.
For better quality furniture, go to Big Lots.
