Spirit Airlines Complaint - $9 Fare Club Membership Is Very Misleading
NORTH CAROLINA -- I was booking a flight from Myrtle Beach to NY and once at their site I applied for the Spirit Master Card. It stated I would automatically be a member of the $9 fare club for one year with the condition that I use the card at least once a month for anything, even a $1 purchase. It seemed like a good idea because it cost $39.95 to join the fare club. I was not approved right away so after a few days I joined the fare club and put the $39.95 on my debit card and booked my flight. The very next day I received the Master Card in the mail. I went to the website again and tried to drop out of the fare club but couldn't. I called and got someone who could barely speak English who told me I couldn't cancel my membership. Trying to explain what happened was to no avail. We went in circles. In addition to this it was indicated when applying for the fare club that there would be a trial period where I could cancel. Since I had no luck on the site and no luck with customer service, I wrote a letter to their corporate offices stating the situation and told them of my intent to file with the BBB if my $39.95 was not refunded. I am still awaiting a reply.
I would not use this airline again except for the fact it is the most convenient, non-stop and cheapest way to fly from the Carolinas to NY. I would encourage anyone applying for the MC and/or the $9 fare club to be very wary.
