Wal-Mart Complaint - Fraudulent Return Policy
GLENMONT, NEW YORK -- Walmart definitely has a fraudulent return policy coupled with terrible customer service. They have nerve to put signs boasting a 90 day unrestricted return policy with a few exceptions, and others with Sam Walton saying the customer is always right. That is almost an insult to the customer, at least put up nothing.
What they do is equivalent to shoplifting customers, and I'm definitely notifying the NYS attorney general about their violations of law. They think they could just get away with anything because they are Walmart.
Their return policies are arbitrary and based on the whim of the managers there. Once I bought frozen food, and it looked horrible when I opened it. I brought it back in 5 weeks, there is no reason frozen food should not last longer. I was told there is no return possible on food after 15 or 30 days (they couldn't make up their mind). Now there is NOTHING in the store mentioning any policy about food returns. The local supermarkets here have no problem taking back bad stuff even WITHOUT a receipt. I have no problem complying with a return policy if I know it in advance.
Another item I returned came from their pharmacy department(who would know) - it was a back massager on a chair. I brought it back in 3 weeks. They gave me a very hard time and finally gave me a store credit. They gave me BS that its a personal item that contacts your body..so what about a pair of pants or a chair? This should easily fit into their 90 day policy.
Mind you, I asked for a written policy or explanation I was told this is what the manager said. The manager won't even talk to you in person. What they are doing is tricking customers into believing they can unconditionally return items where it is really a final sale. The worst NYC tourist trap couldn't pull this off. At least those stores tell you flat out you can't return or there is a very limited policy.
There is nothing anywhere in the store that they could point to about this "policy." This is blatantly against NYS consumer law. I'm sure NYS will love to investigate this and penalize them with their current budget shortfalls.
I wanted to buy a battery charger as a gift, and I asked a few employees about the return policy. I got varied responses ... 30 days, 90 days, and 30 days if the box is unopened. The box is already open. So it is up to the whim of the management what they would do in the event of a return.
I'm sure Walmart takes back many items with no problems, and I have returned things, but they have many exceptions and you may be surprised when you need to return.
I will NEVER EVER shop in this store again. I used my store credit and that is the end of my business there. I spent thousands in the past, now it will go to local stores if possible. I don't even care about the money of these items, I just hate being lied to and double talked to by the robots who work there. I feel sorry for the workers though, if they treat customers like that the workers must be under a ton of duress. I would have a hard time explaining to a customer what is written on the wall is actually not true. I wonder if they could even read and comprehend the policies there.
Walmart management should look into this store, they are really giving the company a bad name. (Glenmont, NY)
