AirTran Airways Informative - Beware On Board Theft
ATLANTA, GEORGIA -- I have been robbed twice while in my seat on a Airtran flight. Once from under the seat and once in the over head storage. BEWARE. During the bustle of boarding, some one is stealing. Pay attention. If you see someone that is going through all the bins and changing seats they may be looking for expensive cameras, laptops, Ipods, Christmas gifts and other small electronics.
I lost a Nikon digital camera and a Louis Vitton scarf. I saw the woman that stole the scarf. She came up to Business Class and kept moving her things in and out of several bins. When I asked if she needed help, she replied that she couldn't find any place to put her stuff. I stood up and helped her position her bag so that it would fit. I noticed that her carry-on bag was empty, but didn't think much of it. She moved her things back to Coach just at the last moment. I didn't notice until time to de-plane that the scarf was missing.
Airtran will not help you with this and the police say not their jurisdiction because the plane is private property. Flight Attendants will tell you that they are not security. Airtran has no system to prevent thefts of opportunity, so we will have to be more vigilant. Leave nothing unlocked.
