Consumer Protection Division Complaint - Complaint against WORLDCOM Wireless

Complaint
Review by terrylcaldwell@msn.com on 2001-05-14
CHICAGO, ILLINOIS -- Dear Attorney General,

As a honest consumer from your state, I felt it was my responsibility to bring to your attention the following incident.

In February 2000 I signed up with WORLDCOM Wireless for a 1 year service agreement for wireless telephone service. My agreement was for $39.95 per month with 200 free minutes plus free weekend calls and detailed monthly billing. The very first bill included the weekend calls, I immediately called their customer service dept. and was told that it would be corrected and that a credit would be on my next bill. The next month I was again billed for the weekend calls. Again, I called customer service and was told that it would be corrected, it never was. After many communications (via telephone and Email) WORLDCOM showed litte interest in resolving my problem. Finally in October 2000, I notified WORLDCOM that due to their lack of interest in resolving my problem I was cancelling my account. I have already paid WORLDCOM $433.01 (I have my returned checks) My bill from 03/20/01 thru 08/19/00 was $268.44 (minus the weekend calls). If they did not honor the cancellation of my account the amount due from 10/1/00 thru 03/01/01 is $268.44. Since I have alread paid $433.01, that leaves a balance due of only $94.50. They insist that I owe them $529.99, this is ridiculous. I have make every attempt to contact WORLDCOM with no satisfaction. They do not want to help me. My last telephone conversation was with Dan Cheeks at 1.888.542.3172. He was very rude and offered me a deal to settle my account that i did not agree with. I also mailed a complete package of information including copies of all correspondence and cancelled checks to Alice Linhart at P.O. Box 3187, Cedar Rapid , IA 54206-3187.

As a resolution, I would like the following:

I want WORLDCOM to stop sending me past due notices and to end this. I have an excellent credit history and I do not want it ruined by this.

Please feel free to contact me if you would like more details regarding this incident.
