Ashley Furniture Informative - Ashley Furniture Is Junk!!!
WEST DES MOINES, IOWA -- After reading all of the Ashley posts I am glad we did not buy our Ashley Entertainment Center from an Ashley Store. We had purchased an entertainment center from Homemakers Furniture in West Des Moines Iowa. Our initial purchase was on the 1st of November and included several other items. We had been doing some remodeling in our house and were getting ready for large family gathering at our house. We were told our entertainment center would arrive in 2 to 4 weeks and we said that would be fine. I called the first week of December to inquire about our entertainment center and was told it would arrive the 18th of December, though this was much later than I expected I told them I would pick it up when it came in and live with that. On December 20th I called again and was told that my piece was now scheduled for the 18th of January. This was not going to work for me so my wife and I went to the store to see about another entertainment center. We found one made by Ashley that was close to what we had ordered originally and about the same price. The salesman told us it was the same quality as our first choice so we purchased it and since they could not deliver it in time for us we said we would take it. When we were picking it up at the warehouse they brought out 4 boxes it was in pieces and needed assembled. We have purchased many items from Homemakers before but none that had ever needed assembled, we were shocked but said we would take it.
When we got home with the entertainment center I opened the box and the first piece out was the back of the center stand and it had 2 cracks in the 1/4" plywood back. since we were desperate we decided since it was just the back we would take a sharpie and color in the cracks and use it. The rest of the center piece assembly went well. I opened the next box and it was one of the pillars for the entertainment center and could not believe what I found. The pillar was shipped with the 2 side pieces attached to the front with hinges and one side 2 of the hinges were ripped out of the particle board with huge chunks of the board missing. The other 2 hinges were bent so bad that we were afraid to try and straighten them out for fear of pulling those hinges out of the particle board also. Then we opened the last 2 boxes and found the top pieces had huge gouges in the front of the top that were just painted over and the second pillar was out fo square and not usable.
We called Homemakers and they told us we could return all of the pieces and get our original choice for an entertainment center when it comes in.
I will never buy a piece of Ashley furniture again and I am so happy that I am able to get out from the piece I purchased even though I have to drive 120 miles round trip to get rid of it. This entertainment center was presented to us as being made of wood and it is 100% cheap particle board. The center stand sagged when I put my plasma TV on it I am glad I did not purchase this for my flat screen TV which weighs twice as much I think the top would have collapsed.
