Enterprise Rent-A-Car Complaint - The Company Has A Total Disregard For Their Equipment And The Safety Of Their Customers
I had the same experience from their Gallup, NM office. I needed a car to drive 165 miles to be with family for Christmas. It had just snowed 2 foot in New Mexico and 3 foot at my destination in Colorado. I did not notice that three of the tires were bald until the vehicle got stuck in a parking lot at my Destination. When I say bald, I mean no tread at all!! Not even the wear bars were visible. Even in good weather this is a very dangerous condition. It is also a condition that would have been evident for at least 5 to 10 thousand miles before I rented the car.
This indicates to me that the company has a total disregard for their equipment and the safety of their customers. I thought it was a bit strange that the representative was stressing that “ if I needed anything like tire repairs, I could take the car to a Firestone store”. Looking back at it, I think that they knew the condition of the tires before hand. It is this egregious disregard for my safety that I find totality irresponsible, and could have been on the verge of criminal had anything happened that would have resulted in my injury or death.
I called the local enterprise office in Durango, Co and was told that I could take the car down to the Firestone store and see if the store had some replacement tires. I was not about to spend half a day of my once a year visit with my family to do someone else’s job. Not to mention being charged half a day for a vehicle that I couldn’t drive. After some insistence they did replace the car with a crew cab pick up that I could never find a place to park. With all the snow and slush on the roads, I found that the pick up maintenance to be lacking also. Maintenance seems to be a company wide problem. I did take the truck a Firestone dealer to have them to fill up the windshield washer tank. The guy behind the counter told me that Enterprise would not pay them to do that, so I had to buy the fluid and fill the tank my self. This was another safety issue that I thought should have been covered with the cost of the rental.
The whole experience has taught me not to have any dealings with Enterprise. I would strongly advise against renting a car or buying one of their used fleet vehicles from this company
