LOS ANGELES -- Buy.com managed to screw me 3 times within 15 days. I bought 3 items (USB drive, SD card etc., all of Kingston make), I think, in 2005 or 2006. There was a mail-in-rebate for each of these items, and yet I was declined each time. The reason was that Buy.com clearly states that the date of purchase (for your rebate offer to be valid) is actually the day the item is shipped/sent from Buy.com warehouse, and they make sure that the item is NEVER shipped before that day. for example, when I placed the order for an item on the 8th, the deadline for purchase (shipping actually) to avail the rebate was 12th, and they religiously sent it on 13th.
I lost a total of $50 or so, and when I blasted them, they sent me a consolation rebate of $14.
NEVER believe Buy.com's mail-in-rebate. It is all scam.
On the other hand, I had very positive experience with Newegg and Simpletech (bought Simpletech items from Newegg.com), as far as mail-in-rebate goes.
And NO, I do not work for either Newegg or Simpletech. I do research in a university for a living.
