American Express Complaint - Credit Card Limit
I went to a hotel on Christmas Eve..and my card was rejected by the credit and fraud department which caused me to have to call and find out..what was wrong. I have not been late. I have been recorded on every conversation and am well aware that they no longer allow sign and travel. However, without any warning or letter or correspondence...I had the hotel run my card..after I am unloaded and ready to check in...only to have my card rejected
I called and they made me pay an additional 1000 to use the card.
This caused me all kinds of problems..as it is tough to get a wire of money to my bank..the way the holidays fell. I have never been late..been a member since 1982..spent over 140,000 on the card the year earlier and 180, the year before that.
I have been advised and am paying the full balance by the end of the month and they are not even allowing you to be one day late. This is forcing me to drag money from Retirement account at a huge penalty just to get gasoline. I only have one other card..and one oil card..which I personally like the service of AMEX in the past plus like the reward program. Without a letter or warning..they said they evaluated my debt to income ratio..which I don't know what they used as I am self employed and they don't exactly know my income, and yet I was forced to make a telephone payment (one time charge) they said before I was able to stay in a hotel on Christmas Eve.
It was an awakening! Are they short on cash.? do they feel I am a deadbeat now..as I have never missed a payment and do not intend to default as I need the credit card to operate my business and I use my personal card for business as well as travel. You would think if they make 5% off the merchants..plus charge prime plus 7% on the balance and make good money off of me and I have been loyal for 28 years, they would at least send a letter to tell me in advance rather than for me to talk to some one unknown somewhere on Christmas Eve.
It is now a fingers cross just to get a 30.00 worth of gasoline.
I know I owe them and I am paying them and paying them on time..yet they are treating me like I am "on the run" or about to default. Nothing could be further from the TRUTH. I count on AMEX as their service in the past has been absolutely professional and almost perfect but in the past 2 months..you would think they are having their own cash flow problems, because you do have a limit..and they are very interested in every move you make. I am pulling down my spending and using other cards more..now...as I am forced to do what they say..when they say..and I have no say...and yet I have been nothing but a good money making customer for them.
