Freecreditreport.com Complaint - Beware of creditreport.com - online credit report agency

CALIFORNIA -- Last year, I had went online to get access to my credit report. Unlike the title to their name, this report is anything but free! The initial month is free, but in order to get your credit score and be able to dipute any incorrect info, they have you pay. I felt at the time, it was worth paying for at least a few months until all the incorrect info on my report had been disputed and taken off.

Fast forward to the day I no longer need their service since I was able to clean up my report and was happy with my score. I call to cancel, and go through this HORRID encounter with the Rep. with trying to cancel my account. If anyone is familiar with that famous AOL recorded phone call that can be found on Youtube, and Consumer Watch on TV, then you have the basic idea of how crazy it was to try to cancel my membership.
Below is the actual emails I had sent to the Representatives following the phone call I made to cancel my membership.......(sorry so lengthy)

I called yesterday to cancel my subscription to freecreditreport.com. And after an absolutely ridiculous dialogue with the Reprasentative who clearly was getting paid to keep members from cancelling, and after insisting about 10 times that I want to cancel my membership, he finally stated he would cancel it. Now I get an email from you stating only my Credit watch membership was terminated, but I still have membership access to freecreditreport.com.

I wish not to have to call AGAIN and go through the annoying encounter I had to deal with yesterday to ensure my membership is cancelled in it's entirety. That is, I expect not to get charged for any reason in the future from you. Especially after how I was treated with the phone encounter I experienced yesterday. I will definitely not do business with you again, and I will also make it a special point to notify friends to avoid your business at all costs due to the insane way you treat customers when they attempt to cancel their membership.

I will also contact my credit card company to let them know I placed a call to you yesterday, and clearly insisted that I cancel my membership with you, and any charges I encounter in the future from you will be considered fraudulent and incorrect.

This is such a joke! Clearly, you didn't bother to read my original letter to you, before it annoyingly got passed from one Rep to the next, with no help whatsoever! Just bear in mind, that I am keeping copies of our letters back and forth to show what has transpired between us if and when it gets to the point where I need to take legal action against you.

Since you didn't feel it necessary to read my complaint to begin with, before responding to me, let me spell it out again for you. I DID CALL THE CUSTOMER SERVICE NUMBER!!!!!!

I called them 12/31/08 with the request of cancelling my membership since I no longer wished to get charged. (i was getting charged twice a month from you). After this hopelessly long, drawn out conversation with the Rep, who was CLEARLY being paid to NOT cancel my membership, I FINALLY got him to cancel it. But then, the next day, I receive an email that the credit watch portion of the membership was cancelled, but unclear as to if the ENTIRE membership was cancelled. Remember now, I was being charged twice a month. One for the basic membership, and one for the credit watch.

THE WHOLE REASON I am writing to you guys now is because I wished to AVOID the extreme hassle I had to endure when I did call the number, since obviously the rep's are trained to resist all attempts from the consumer to cancel the memberships.

Unfortunately now, I see even writing to you is becoming a huge hassle as well, since I keep getting passed around from one unhelpful Rep. To another.

Well, let this go on the record that I have officially done my part to terminate ANY membership I have with you. And any charges I receive from hereon to my credit card, I now have proof that I did make it clear that I cancelled my membership and any and all charges will be disputed from my credit card company, who have also been notified of the efforts I have had to take to cancel your insane service.

I think that CreditWatch is the part you pay for. It may just be that they are telling you that your login for freecreditreport.com will still work

You can get your credit score through the federal government's progam; I believe the address is www.annualcreditreport.com. The actual report is free, and you have to pay a fee for the score, but paying doesn't obligate you to anything else.

bargod, I agree. I think it's time for them to come up with another new one. That poor guy who has to put up with 'tourists in T-shirts' certainly has a rough time, doesn't he?

As the O.P. let me just follow up by letting everyone know I went through 2 more months of being charged and having my credit card dispute it before I finally just called them again, and let them know how absolutely pissed I was that I had cancelled, and even received a cancellation number, yet I was still being charged. The Rep had the audacity to pull his sales pitch once again. This time I got mean and threatened to sue. Luckily that threat was all it took, and they stopped charging me.

Working with them was a NIGHTMARE. Now, im not one to complain much (and I can hardly bear to stand this site- its so dark and negative) but these "reps" aka hounds as you stated obviously are paid to try and keep you. I spent literally half an hour on the phone with this utterly incompetent woman who finally gave in luckily- I was not charged but not everyone is so lucky. What nonsense this company is.
