DirecTV Inc Complaint - DirecTV Is A Huge Mistake - Don't Try To Cancel Your Service Or You Will Pay
HAUGHTON, LOUISIANA -- I have been a DirecTV "loyal customer" for three years and they have slowly but surely been adding fees and other charges, needless to say my bill has gone from $100.00 A month to $135.00 A month in three years time. We decided to cancel out DirecTV service and go with a local cable provider. When I called to cancel my service I was told that I had another year left on my "contract" and that I would have to pay $240.00 to cancel. I never agreed to any contract with DirecTV. I was told that when I moved and upgraded to HD service that I verbally agreed to a two year contract leaving one year left. This is a lie, when I spoke with the service person about moving my service they told me that because I was a "loyal customer" I was eligible for free HD service and that there were no strings attached. I didn't even care about having HD but since it was "free" I said ok. Well according to DirecTV I was advised that when I agreed to the HD service I also agreed to the two year contract. They got the $240.00 figure because it is $20.00 a month for every month you cancel early. I got no where with customer service and apparently all the corporate bosses were in a "meeting", how convient.
After dealing with the bs I decided that I would still like to disconnect my service and incur the penalty but that doesn't mean I'm giving up. I found out that a law firm is currently investigating DirecTV for unlawful termination fees and is going to consider a class action lawsuit against DirecTV.
