Verizon Complaint - Don't Sign Up With Verizon
Resolution Update on 03/16/2009:
After being notified by the Pa. Attorney General's office, Verizon did as I asked and contacted Directv to release me from their contract without a penalty so I can go back to Comcast.
PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA -- In November Verizon signed us up for phone/TV/internet. Since FiOS is not available in Philadelphia, Pa. they gave us DirecTV. My internet was supposed to be 500 kbps, instead it runs at 200, a signal so weak even my laptop can't find it. I do web design and really need the higher speed.
Three service technicians came out and they were not successful as resolving the problem which turned out to be that we live 6 miles further than the end of Verizon's signal. One of the servicemen told us Verizon should never have let us have their services but the sales people will sell anything.
The issue was referred to engineering and Friday they told me there's nothing they can do. I wanted to be released from my contract so I can return to cable since I need to get the higher internet speed through them but they told me I don't have a contract with Verizon, only DirecTV and they won't release me without a penalty. I refuse to take a penalty for being stuck with a bundle that was given to me under false pretenses.
I'll continue fighting with everyone Monday. In the meantime I'm making it a mission to warn people against Verizon.
Update 3/14/09, I won. I filed a complaint with the attorney general's office online and my case was assigned to someone who contacted Verizon. Verizon then asked Directv to release me without a penalty.
