American Express Complaint - Don't Leave Home With It If You Want To Get Home
CHICAGO, ILLINOIS -- I have been a Amex customer for over 30 years. I have a platinum, blue, and gold card. I spend over 150,000 per year on the card and never carry a balance.
I recently had a business trip in az. I live in Illinois. I called before the trip and told them that I would be there on biz. I made sure I had no balances open on any of the cards. I gave them the dates and where I would be. They told me I had excellent credit and even wanted to give me an additional 25,000 in case I needed cash.
I arrived in az. Presented my Amex card for the hotel, the car, the trade show and for all restaurant charges. I entertained biz people and my salesmen who were with me on the trip. I arrived on Monda and was leaving sun morn. Sat night at 9 pm we went to a restaurant and presented the Amex card to pay.
Declined! I thought someone had my card number. I tried all of the cards that I had from Amex. All declined. Thank god I had a Citibank visa with me. After paying with the visa I called Amex to see what was up.
I was told that all my cards were suspended because of a new policy that required me to supply all of my financials to prove that I could afford the credit that they established and gave to me!
I asked how was I to get home? Thats not our problem, sir. Can you believe it. Not our problem. I used the visa and got home. I called and got up to the vp of Amex. Again, new policy, sorry it happened but its the new policy.
So be careful out there. If you leave home with Amex, you may never get home. I cancelled all of the cards and told them to drop dead. In fact, recently I checked my FICO score the other day and they had from Amex a 7000 open invoice from 2006!.. Sorry they said, must be our new policy.
Be careful and long live Visa and Citibank.
