Hertz Complaint - Car Exchange
ALLENTOWN, PENNSYLVANIA -- As a Hertz Presidents Club member I have rented from Hertz 14 weeks in 2008 and thus far twice in 2009. My latest rental was a true lemon. After picking up in Newark, problems started 20 minutes into my 1 1/2 drive to Allentown, PA. The radio wouldn't find any stations except for one and when it did it flip between AM, FM1,FM2 and line all by itself. Annoying but I live it.
The morning the low tire pressure light came on. I put air in though it wasn't required. The next day the fuel light came on with 3/4 of tank. I was afraid to drive the car. I called Road Side Assistance that evening and was told to take it to the Allentown airport and exchange it. I went there, no cars. They said they would call when a car was returned that evening. Two hours later - no call. I checked the ABE airport website. The last plane had left 40 minutes earlier. I called them. No cars and they were OVER reserved by 3 cars. I asked them to hold a car when one was returned and I would pickup the evening after work. They said they didn't know if they could do that.
I called Hertz customer service. They reserved me a car for the evening at the ABE airport but could not assure me that I wouldn't be charged for 2 one way rentals and an upgrade charge! They told me to talk with a manager. The story isn't over BUT with Budget, National and Avis right there if I'm not satisfied I'm firing Hertz. I hope Hertz has the common sense to review these postings.
