Dyson Complaint - Dysons Work Great If You Don't Use Them!
FORT WORTH, TEXAS -- I own a Dyson DC 18 that worked great until it lost all SUCTION! Customer support reps were great at helping me trouble shoot with no success. I dismantled the machine as far as I could without voiding the warranty to look for potential blockage, no blockage seen. I utilized a flexible probe to assure that no potential blockage was present beyond what I could not visualize thru all hoses and intakes, none were found. Assured that I had done all I could to this fine machine I called support who agreed that service by a Dyson certified tech would be needed. After all I invested in a 350.00 dollar machine because it had a great warranty and claim of "NO LOSS OF SUCTION". To my surprise and regret I come to find out that the machine has a blockage? After questioning the Dyson certified tech about the blockage and all that I have done he informs me that I needed to blow air from a compressor thru the machine to clear the blockage of dust, hair and particles which accumulate in the cones of the canister. Humm isn't that part of the technology that is supposed to keep the machine from loosing suction?
Isn't dust, hair and dirt particles a normal course of daily vacuuming? Well needless to say the "BLOCKAGE" is not covered by the warranty. When I complained to the Dyson helpline representative he insinuated that possible neglect of the machine had occurred. All this without ever asking for a name, serial number or documented history. Hmmm I guess if I had kept my Dyson in the box or just simply not used it then the suction would be pristine. If you intend on using this machine then be sure to invest in an air compressor to maintain it. If you do plan on using it then be aware that blockages ( accumulation of dust and debris in normal course of cleaning within the patented cone system ) will NOT BE COVERED! Has anyone else experienced these issues? I began searches on this very occurance and was surprised to find that DYSON was cited on May/30/2007 for Breech of Industry Rules by the Advertising Standards Authority for claiming that Dyson vacuum cleaners were better than others because they did not rely on filters which meant no CLOGGING and therefore no loss of suction. The manufactures literature clearly instructs on the cleaning and maintenance of the FILTER.
I clean my DYSON DC18 FILTER every six months! The Oxford dictionary describes a BLOCKAGE as a an obstruction, obstacle, hindrance, barricade, CLOG, close off, shut off. Funny how Sir James DYSON creator of the DYSON does not think that a blockage is a clog but my DC18 sure did because it clogged, had a blockage and SHUT OFF!
