Key Bank USA Complaint - Key Bank - Mortgage Lending/Banking/Customer Service
CLAYTON, NEW YORK -- Terrible experience. Mortgage Loan Officer in Syracuse, NY led us on for months (two weeks of which we stayed in hotels with my father who has Alzheimer's due to their delays) waiting for a mortgage commitment letter which was "coming any day".
Then, when we finally said forget it after spending hundreds of dollars on hotel costs and restaurants, Key Bank refuses to refund $300 because they took it upon themselves to do an appraisal (that we never asked for since we were waiting for the commitment letter).
Having left the day after we terminated the mortgage application to return to Arizona, we realize upon our arrival in Phoenix that their failure to refund the appraisal fees to our checking account has now sent the account into overdraft. No one bothers to call us from our branch as we travel across the U. S. and we realize that we have racked up over $600 in OD fees from using the debit card! Six $38 charges in one day!
I call the local branch three times to straighten things out. I never get past a teller and get no return phone calls. Two e-mails are also ignored.
My bet is that with Key's exposure to the Florida real estate and the marine lending market, they are probably nearing insolvency and, hence, their willingness to play hardball on OD and appraisal fees with us.
I'm out $300 on the appraisal fee and Key Bank can take a flying leap regarding the OD fees. We will be filing complaints with the NY State Banking Department.
