Menards Complaint - How Not To Treat Your Employees - Employee Relations

Employee Relations - Complaint
Review by beyer on 2009-01-16
MADISON, WISCONSIN -- It is -35 degree's today in Wisconsin. It's a shame when one of your employee's calls in and states that they have a flat tire but still will be in to work when it's fixed. The supervisor states "you have a flat tire?" "Well you'll have to prove it, take a picture and show it to a supervisor when you come in". What kind of supervisor do they promote that can't trust an employee that's worked there for 3 years?

It's not like the employee wasn't coming into work. The employee did the responsible thing and called stating why they would be late.

Are you that employee? If so, you better go let the air out of a tire. Make sure you have a pump close by. lol!

It is ridiculous, but there may be some sort of story telling history with the employee and the guy is getting fed up.
If pictures become a regular request, excuse making could become real real fun!

Hi, C2O. I even wonder if it's possible to change a tire when it's that cold without getting frostbite in the process. I would have to call AAA--if they would even come out.

Hi Diane, and good evening(?) to you. It wouldn't be possible for me. I'm a wimp! lol.
I'd use AAA too. I know they respond quickly in 80 degree weather.

I'd probably call my HR contact and discuss with them the need to prove I had a flat tire for being late.

Requiring employees to bring in photographic evidence supporting their reason for tardiness will end when the first employee is late because of an unexpected bout of diarrhea.
