S880 Digital Camera - Complaint
Review by doctord0s on 2009-01-20
I am going through a nightmare of a problem with Casio. I have a S800 that has a bad CCD. When you take pictures, they have lines through them when viewed on the computer etc. Looks like every 3rd line or so on the CCD is bad. I sent it in, and they claim that the casing is cracked (the casing is metal, btw, so how it cracks I do not know).

For one, the camera was wrapped in about an inch of bubble wrap for shipping, and the camera had never been dropped. I know for a fact the only two defects on that camera were small scratches in the red finish on the metal of the front, and those were from my keys in my pocket. They want to charge upwards of $90 to repair it, and in hearing what the technician’s notes were, I question if they even identified the problem correctly. I clearly explained the problem in a letter enclosed with the camera, and the technician’s notes were “LCD checks ok”. What kind of technicians do they even have working there? CCD and LCD are very different things.

I have owned COUNTLESS Casio products (I can think of at least 10, including 5 digital cameras), this is the first time I ever had to use their customer service, and it is quite possibly the worst customer service, period. I am the "tech guy" of my family, and give suggestions on what cameras to buy. Forget recommending Casio again. Their products are good, but their customer service is awful. It speaks leagues about how the company actually is. Unless they have a complete 180 on this, they can kiss my business and my recommendations goodbye.
