United Airlines Complaint - United Breaks Their Own Check-in "Rules"
SANTA ANA, CALIFORNIA -- I arrived at John Wayne airport (SNA) and hour before my flight. I was messing with my bags, rearranging items, and tried to check in 43 minutes before my flight was set to leave. The UA people wouldn't let me check my bag. They wouldn't let me talk to anyone at the counter about it. They stuck me on the telephone with a customer service representative and all she could offer was that I book a new flight with THEM in LAX for another $1,000.
I don't fly often, I was alone, so it took me a few minutes to figure out what to do. I finally figured out to call my daughter, ask her to search for flights for me online, then walked over to another airline to book a new one-way flight that day with another airline.
Ah, but my return flight was also with United. For that flight I checked in online but I still had my carry on bag with me. Due to massive delays at security for carry ons I was the last person to board my return flight. It was WAY past time for the 45-minute check in rule and yet, they checked in my carry-on at the door of the plane because there was no room for it in the overhead bins.
What can we learn from this?
AVOID United Airlines!!!! They are nutso in their policies and their customer service people were all callous and cold-hearted to me for both flights. I will spend the extra money and fly with other airlines in the future.
