COLUMBUS, OHIO -- I am a past employee of NCO Financial... I was not a collector, I worked in the support area. If you get a collection call that you do not agree with, you are allowed by law to dispute the claim. By law the client has to provide you a statement showing date, services performed, any demographics that prove the debt is valid. From there the client has 30 days to provide evidence to the debtor or the claim has to be removed from your credit report. If you okay the claim off... be sure to check your credit report to make sure the claim has in fact been removed.
BTW..rarely do the clients send in evidence to support the claim. Hope this helps!
