Sony Card from Chase Bank Complaint - Fine Print On Bank Check

Review by senior100 on 2009-02-09
YUKON, OKLAHOMA -- I was having some countertops put in my kitchen. I had the money to pay for it and then I got this check from Chase. So I paid the balance of the renovation with the check thinking it would possibly help the economy even though I had the money to pay for it all. I have received checks like this before but they were always up front about how long I had to pay it off which I always did without incurring any extra charges.

When I called the bank to see why I had not gotten my statement they told me it would be about Feb. 8th. and they had added a 31/2 % charge and this percentage (this was told to me by the girl from chase) was in fine print on the check and she seem kind of embarrassed. They also had an overage fee because the 31/2% put me over the limit. She said she could waive the overage fee so I owe them about $95 more than I expected to pay.

Whenever, I have used these kind of checks before they were not in fine print. So I canceled my account because I don't want to deal with this kind of business. I just want other to be aware of this. It seems a lot like what happened in the sub-prime housing market.

I think you are correct in as much as most of the people who got slammed in the sub-prime mess didn't read the fine print either.
