A1 Transmission Baldwin Complaint - Dumb

Review by ratecarservice on 2009-02-15
BALDWIN, NEW YORK -- I brought my car in because it was having startup issues, and was told that they would run a "diagnostic". I told them "not to perform any work on the car because it is covered by warranty" Instead they "worked on the car for 4+ hours," installed a part without asking me, then charged $400+. When I disagreed with the charges, they basically threatened that they "reduced the cost" and could charge me more for "the labor" and "remove the part."

I don't know if their service is high or low quality, however if you use them, make sure you tell them the maximum amount of time to spend working on your car, and to not install any parts without telling you, or they will go bananas and charge you for maximum time at $95 plus an hour, and install parts without your permission.

You should not have to pay them if you did not authorize the service.

Sue them in small claims court. Depending on the part, they may have also voided your warranty.

I agree, you should not have to pay them if you did not authorize the service. I don't know if small claims court is the answer. Depending on the complexity, you can get a lawyer to write a letter for you and 9 times out of 10 that is enough to send a message to the company that you mean serious business and they will do whats right.

I do have one question: Was this service center authorized to make repairs covered under the warranty? If not, why not save yourself the headache and take it to a place that would have authorization to make warranty repairs?
