Hughesnet Complaint - Just When You Think They Can't Get Any Worse...
NEWVILLE, PENNSYLVANIA -- AVOID THIS COMPANY AT ALL COSTS! They promise a lot--and charge a lot for it, however they simply do not deliver. I pay $80 per month, and it seldom works. I finally called technical support and after nearly three hours of "trouble shooting," the techie told me that it was my computer that was the problem and that I should call the "3rd party vendor" to get the issue resolved. The only problem with that is that I have 3 computers (1 Dell desktop, one HP desktop and one HP laptop), all of which have the same speed issues with Hughesnet. Funny thing is that when I travel with the laptop, it works perfectly on both wired and wireless networks all over the world... So, I called tech support again and got it elevated to some level or another and after several more hours the guy told me they would do speed tests. A few days later I get a call from his counterpart who tells me that I am the one that is supposed to be running the speed tests--three times per day! So, I start running the tests--for a month! I then get a call from Hughesnet telling me that since no tests have been run, they are closing the service call! More hours on hold and "trouble shooting" results in them finally admitting there is a problem with the service and to keep running the tests. I am now to call them back when my service is working properly so they can issue me some sort of credit.
Meanwhile, I keep paying my monthly bill for decreased or no service AND running tests--apparently indefinitely. You should also note that every single one of the individuals I spoke to, both in billing and in technical support, are not native English speakers and have varying degrees of ability in English. I have spent many years in foreign lands, and have never found this to be a problem.
However, it is much worse when discussing technical issues and spending HOURS on the phone. If you have any other choice, take it!
