RCN Compliment - Reliable, Fast Internet Service
WASHINGTON, DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA -- I purchased RCN cable internet service because they were the only cable company in my area that didn't coercively bundle TV service with internet service. Their 5mbps internet service is 40 bucks a month with a wireless router. The speed is consistently close to 5mbps. They sell service a-la-carte, whereas with Comcast, it would be $60 for a slower internet connection alone or closer to $100 with a few paltry cable channels and internet. Because I don't want or need cable TV, RCN is the better deal for me.
During this entire year, the service has gone down twice. Once, due to a major DNS problem admittedly caused by RCN (they sent prompt notification and fixed the issue) and once by a crackhead in my building selling discount cable hook-ups. A technician was dispatched for this second event just as quickly. Both outages amounted to a few hours. I've seen longer down time with Verizon in two locations I've lived and worked in.
I just thought I'd relate a positive experience because people are much more likely to write a negative review than a positive review.
Cable customers should also bear in mind that the quality of service also depends on the condition of the underlying infrastructure of your home or building. If you have 20 year old coax or poorly installed wiring, your mileage may vary.
