Cingular Wireless Complaint - Fraudulent billing practices...
EAST SYRACUSE, NEW YORK -- I just renewed my service agreement with Cingular Wireless and decided to upgrade my plan. I was originally signed up for the $29.99 plan. That plan included 300 anytime minutes and 5000 weekend and night minutes. This plan worked well for me and I never went over minutes. Well, my contract was expiring and I decided to check out what promotions were being offered. I saw that they were offering a family talk plan for $9.99 a month. I also thought about upping my minutes to make up for the additional minutes used for the second phone. I also thought about rollover minutes. I tried to do everything over the internet, but the website kept booting me off. I, instead, called and spoke to a representitive. I asked the rep for two Motorola T-720 telephones. I told her that I wanted to up my primary phone to the $39.99 and add the second phone for $9.99.
I received the phones in timely fashion and was, so far, happy with the service. Then I got my first bill for over $300.00! Of course, I knew that I had to pay for the phones, but it was unclear as to the charges I found in the bill. Anyways, after speaking to three representitives, I was able to get $42.00 credited to my next bill. I had a difficult time explaining that I wanted the $39.99 plan. The woman kept telling me that I couldn't receive the $9.99 plan anymore because it ended the last day of January. Of course I started my plan on January 8th. She told me there was nothing she could do because the computers won't allow her to go back into previous promotions. I asked to speak to a manager. After a long pause I was reunited to the rep I was talking to and she said the manager ok'd me for the plan that I thought I had originally signed up for. Well, I just reviewed my current bill, and to my surprise, it wasn't taken care of. I was charged $49.99 plus $9.99!!! I called again and spoke to a different CSR and she also informed me that she couldn't change the plan. I can either pay $49.99 and $9.99 a month, or pay $39.99 and 19.99 a month! Talk about billing fraud. I only have a copy of the contract they sent me with my new phones. The bill with my primary phone shows a $29.99 plan. The second phone is blank where the amount is. I ask you, is this a regular practice at Cingular. I am made to feel like a fool because someone made a calculated "mistake." I can't cancel my service without a huge fee. I can't get a so-called manager to return a phone call. I don't feel that I am a customer. I feel cheated out of $10.00 a month. I use less than a third of my currently alloted minutes. Why would I sign up for such a big plan? Please be warned everyone. This is a normal practice at Cingular.
