Time Warner Cable Complaint - Charges For Old Outdated Equipment
CHARLOTTE, NORTH CAROLINA -- On 1/6/2009 a TW service tech. came out for a service call about the cable box not working correctly. (There had been a bad storm the week before that caused us to lose power). He inspected the box, on sight he commented that the model was out of date and had been upgraded at least twice. There was a hair-line crack in the box over 5 years ago when they installed it but the box always worked fine so I didn't concern myself over it at the time. The Service tech decides the easiest thing to do is just upgrade the box and says the other box is so old they don't even use them anymore. Apparently after I left he had my boyfriend sign a receipt saying there would possibly be a charge for damaged equipment. He assures my boyfriend it is highly unlikely because of the age of the box.
Fast forward one month, I open my account online to a bill for 497.00 dollars and about have a stroke. I pull up the statement to find a 350.00 dollar charge for equipment. Equipment that was out of date, not used anymore, and only had a superficial crack in the face plate. Oh, there are no words to describe my anger at this insanity. I called TW because the Service Tech told my boyfriend "if" we get charged to call and dispute it due to the age of the box. Yeah, that didn't work they are enforcing a 350.00 dollar charge on a box I am positive they threw in the trash. I spoke with a supervisor and she was condescending, rude, and inconsiderate. She informed me the hair-line crack should have been reported immediately to prevent this from happening. (They would have probably charged me 750.00 dollars for it when it was NEW.)
I have been a good customer over 7 years, never made a late payment and this is how they show their appreciation. If I wasn't locked into a contract I would just cancel the service, instead I will pay the money and ride out my contract. However, EVERY person I see EVERY chance I get I will let others know how poorly this was handled. It may not matter to them but it matters to me, good customers should be rewarded not insulted.
