Home Depot Complaint - MTD Snow Throwers - 22" -5 HP MTD Yard Machine Snow Blower
CHRISTIANA, DELAWARE -- I purchased a Home depot assembled MTD Yard machine snow blower during a snow storm in 1996. I cleared 5 driveways during the 1 Storm. At the end of the 5th driveway the auger belt broke. After trying $40.00 worth of belts I took it to my local mower repair shop who had 30 other just like mine. He told me they manufactured the belts the wrong size. After not having it the rest of the winter I got it back in the summer of 1997. I started it up held down the handles and the auger seemed to be fine. 1998 it snows. I get about 4 ft down the driveway and the new belt brakes!. Winter 1999 comes and it snows. Tired of looking at this brand new machine collect dust I return it to Home Depot who tells me they only guarantee outdoor equipment for 1 year. So I pay Home Depot $50.00 to send it back to MTD to fix the problem. I get it back in the summer of 2000. No snow to run it in, it starts up fine, the auger turns when you press the handle. No snow till winter of 2002 to use it in. I get 12 Ft. down the driveway and the belt on the auger brakes! (Where's my shotgun?) I leave the brand new $800.00 machine sit in my garage disgusted to collect dust. I moved started a snow Removal business and need the machine for sidewalks. I send it to another mower repair shop and another $150.00. they return it saying it is fixed.
It snows today. Calls coming in for driveways. I get 4 ft down the first driveway and the belt won't engage! Does Home depot ever really care about anything they Sell? or are they just happy making money while they can, give their executives bonuses while the company goes down the tubes and someday they'll get a govt. bailout because they employ so many people. It used to be they really cared about their customers satisfaction. just goes to show you should pay a little more and buy from the local guy.
