Banquet Complaint - Wrong Nutrition Facts/Calories

Review by powerman420 on 2009-03-04
WAPAKONETA, OHIO -- I was bored the other day and decided to read the nutrition fact labels on banquet chicken, beef, and turkey pot pies. the turkey calories added up right at 370 but the beef claimed to be 300 calories and with the carbs, protein and fat added together, they total 392! thats almost 100 more than what the total calorie thing says. as for the chicken, it says 300 also but actually adds up to like 366.

I notified them and they said they'd look into it.

You should inform the US Food and Drug Administration. Their website is http://www.fda.gov/

I'd be willing to bet that there is some type of disclaimer or asterisk that explains the discrepancy (sp?).
Thanks for the info as I will pass it on to a former member on here that ate those things religiously.

I thought carbs, protein, fat, etc were different then calories, or am I reading this wrong?

Calories are a heat measurement

OF, are you saying there is a difference? LOL
I don't ever pay attention to the total calories when I look at labels, I zero in on things like trans fats, sugar carbs, etc.

Wow, you must have been really bored to look at the nutrition labels of Banquet products. Was your tv broken and internet not working? Oh wait, you're in OH. That might explain a few things. Next time you're bored go knock over a few cows or something.

When I'm bored..REALLY bored.. I sometimes organize my pantry by product name, size and sometimes alphabetically.. and yea I sometimes catch myself reading labels too.. ;)

Talk about being bored with no cows to tip I went to the ConAgra website to view the nutritional labels for the Banquet pot pies.

Beef - 450 calories
Chicken - 370 calories
Turkey - 390 calories

Why as kids and in some cases, adults do/did we read the back of cold cereal boxes? Even the boring ones like "Special K" or "Total?"
If you're really bored Google up "Kaboom" cold cereal. That stuff was so loaded with vitamins that you could smell them let alone taste them! It was like eating "One A Day" Vitamins! Yuck!!!!!!

I read cans, jars and toilet paper packages while sitting in the bathroom. One day I learned that the same company made three different brands of toilet paper and they were all priced differently.

A TV in the kitchen? No!
Crash, surely you always picked the cereal with the toy inside......Right?

powerman, obviously math is not one of your powers, or is it understanding nutrition labels. the calories listed are exatly that, the calories. Carbohydrates, protein and fat are not calories, but weights or ratio of the item to the total. You do not add carbs, protein and fat to the calories, just as you do not add apples and oranges. Somewhere I know there is a government website that shws you how to read nutrition labels. Please find it and use it.
