Vonage Complaint - Stay Away From Vonage At Any Cost...
I had Vonage for a while. I kept paying $24.99 fee, plus taxes, plus international call fees (which are not the best around, for your information. You can get much cheaper international service with STi phone cards for example--my calls to Turkey cost 12 cents a minute with Vonage and a little more than 3 cents a minute with STi).
Anyways, since I was paying $24.99 and they have an option to pay yearly, I switched to the yearly payment to save about $60 a year ($240 for a year). Wise choice, right? Wrong, wrong, WRONG! First off, shortly after I signed up with the yearly plan, they started charging a $9 a month fee for taxes. They claim that's regulation and it's not their fault. OK, but this effectively boosted my monthly expense to $30 EXCLUDING international calls. After about 5 months on the yearly plan, I called to cancel them. After waiting half an hour on the phone, I finally reached a representative who first tried to convince me to stay on, and after I refused... put me BACK ON HOLD... Anyways, after another 10 frustrating minutes, she said it is canceled, BUT... NO REFUND ON MY REMAINING 7 MONTHS! So, by canceling, I effectively lost about $140! It is totally crazy that Vonage DOES NOT OFFER ANY REFUNDS OF ANY KIND once you decide to cancel your service. Other services routinely offer refunds for the remainder of your service time. VONAGE DOESN'T!!! So beware of their wonderful 12-month option. It is nothing but an effort to horribly mislead customers.
I guess my only consolation at this point is that I am not the only person not happy with their service. Vonage lost 14 thousand customers in the last quarter. Stay away!
