Rogers Cable Complaint - Two Days Late = Pay NOW Phone Calls and Rude Staff
TORONTO -- All of my bills are due at the end of the month and I religiously pay each well in advance of the due date. I didn't notice that my February cable bill hadn't arrived or was misplaced(I got engaged at the beginning of February and my bill organization system wasn't top of mind!)On March 3, three business days after the due date, I got a notice saying my payment was late. I made the payment via online banking immediately.
Two days later, I received a phone call with an automated message informing me "This is an important message, please hold." Normally, I would hang up, but I held as instructed (I thought it was a collection agency that had been calling for someone we don't know and I wanted to tell them not to call anymore), and a Rogers Cable representative came on to let me know my payment was now five days late. She asked me to pay now via credit card and I told her the payment had been made and it would post to my account the next day. She got very rude at this point and informed me that I should have paid by credit card because I was now making Rogers wait too long for their payment and she didn't believe me when I said I had paid.
I'm a four year customer who has never paid late or missed a payment. This has nothing to do with the tough economy, but is rather a regular Rogers practice according to others I have spoken to. I have no issue with Rogers calling to remind me my payment is late - had I not yet received the notice, this would have been very helpful - but I do have an issue with receiving an automated call and having to hold for the person who called me. And I definitely have an issue with a rude caller and the "you're a deadbeat" tone she used.
Unfortunately, Rogers has a monopoly on cable service in Toronto and I have no choice but to remain with them for now. I've already rid myself of their internet and, when we leave our condo and buy our new house after the wedding, I will be saying good-bye to Rogers Cable as well.
