DirecTV Inc Complaint - Pricing Scam - Anything sold by DirecTV
ORANGE COUNTY, CALIFORNIA -- If you are shopping around for Satellite companies, stay clear of this one. Scam is only the nicest thing you can say about DirecTV. This has happened to me twice:
I originally signed up with DirecTV in 2005 and I was promised, after asking the Sales Rep many times that my price would be fixed for a year ( i.e. no rate increase, cost increase to me). And he said yes. And sure enough they jacked up the price after 3 months claiming rate increases. I called many times to complain and every time a customer representative or supervisor said that their Sales Reps can't make those offers/promises. I even had the Sales Rep name and his employee id#. I was even able to track down the Sales representative voicemail and left a message asking for help in this matter, but to no avail. Then I moved to a place where they didn't allow satellite and that was that.
Now in 2009, I moved to another place where I could sign up for DirecTV, and I gave them a second chance. My mistake!!!!!!!!! So once again, I was promised fixed pricing, rebates, all the bells and whistles. I got the Sales representative name and ID number like the first time and I really wanted to record my conversation with him, but I told myself that recording my telephone conversation was a little overboard. MY MISTAKE AGAIN!! And sure enough, 3 months later the jacked up my monthly package charge just like the first time. And after calling to complain, and holding and holding. I just got the usual run around (by the way, they do this on purpose putting you on hold for long periods of time. Companies have statistical evidence supporting the theory that the longer they make you wait on the phone, the more likelihood you will give up and just hang up! Do some research if you don't believe me.)
SO NOTE TO NEW CUSTOMERS WANTING TO SIGN UP FOR DIRECTV: HAVE A TAPE RECORDER THAT RECORDS GOOD AUDIO, RECORD THE CONVERSATION THAT YOU HAVE WITH YOU SALES REP OVER THE PHONE, ASK HOW LONG THE PRICING WILL BE LOCKED IN FOR A YEAR, GET THE SALES REP EMPLOYEE NUMBER AND THEIR NAME, (DON'T SIGN UP YET!) SAY YOU ARE NOT INTERESTED. CALL BACK LATER LOOKING FOR THE SALES REP YOU ORIGINALLY TALKED TO, (JUST TO MAKE SURE HE WAS NOT LYING TO YOU THE FIRST TIME), AND SIGN UP. AND WHEN THEY JACK UP THE PRICING ON YOU WITHIN THE YEAR, CALL A GOOD LAWYER AND SUE THEIR ASS!!!! I"M CANCELING IN A COUPLE OF MONTHS JUST TO SPITE THEM. GRANTED I WILL HAVE A CANCELLATION FEE TO PAY BUT IT WILL BE WORTH THE MONEY THAT THEY WON'T GET OUT OF YOU AFTER YOU DO CANCEL!!!!
