Dish Network Complaint - No Refunds For Programming - Even If You Die
My mother recently passed away and she was a subscriber to Dish Network. Keep in mind she was a long time customer who owned her own equipment and was under no contract that I am aware of. We called to cancel her subscription and, after several phone calls with lengthy wait times, were told that a refund check for about $11 would be issued.
After 2 months without receiving a refund, I contacted them again. The first time I called, the automated billing system told me there was a credit of $11.91 on this closed account. The representative told me that this was not a credit and that a 57 cent credit had been applied to the account and that left a balance of 0. I questioned the math skills of Dish Network, but was given the same math outcome.
Frustrated, I called back and talked to a different representative This representative was actually helpful. I was placed on hold while he consulted with management. When he returned, he told me that the $11.91 was based on programming and Dish Network does not offer refunds on programming. He said this fact is stated in the contract. I did not confirm that, so it may be true.
For a measly $11, I decided it just wasn't worth pursuing.
However, after thinking about it more, I decided to post this experience so that others were aware of this business practice.
So, if you ever deal with Dish Network, I offer the following advice:
Never pay more than you absolutely have to for any given month. Don't pay for the whole year just because you have the money. The fact is, if you die, Dish Network becomes the beneficiary of any pre-paid programming.
