24 Hour Fitness Complaint - Contract Cancellation Scam - Fitness Membership

Fitness Membership - Complaint
Review by the floyd sound on 2009-03-16
I recently cancelled my membership (2-7), and was shocked to see a charge on my credit card 3 weeks (2-25) after cancellation. I had the membership for 6 months, and when I signed the contract, I paid 2 months (60) days membership in advance, and every month afterwards I paid 1 month's membership, so I was never prepaid for less than 30 days. So, I called and asked why I was charged and this was the response I received. "Your contract states you will give notice 30 days before your contract expires, and you were paid thru February 25, so the payment applied on February 25 is valid thru March 25, and the initial payment at contract signing will then cover you thru April 25."

So, basically, they will apply the initial payment to whatever dates they see fit and then fill in the gaps with new required payments. In order for me to cancel on February 7, I had to pay thru April 25, 2 months and 19 days, way longer than 30 days.

What they are doing is definitely fraudulent, charging you for 2 months after you ended the contract. Charging you for the extra month at the end seems acceptable because of the 30 days notice requirement, however since you had prepaid for that month, you should not have been charged again.
