Budget Rent-A-Car Complaint - Outrageous Bill For A Flat Tire
LAS VEGAS, NEVADA -- Our family rented a mini-van on-line through our personal insurance carrier. While on vacation, we had a flat. The right rear tire blew out on paved road. There were no injuries, no rim damage, or other damage to the vehicle. We were ~150 miles away from the location that we rented from. We changed the tire (to the smaller donut tire) and made our way back slowly. We were told to drop off the vehicle and they would switch us to another. We did. Everything worked out fine for the duration of our vacation.
After we came home, we received a letter, receipts and invoices for $411.96. After reviewing the invoices, we were charged for two tires, administration fees, loss of use fees, labor, and taxes. When we originally made our reservation, the provisions that accompanied with that were that we did not need to purchase loss damage coverage, if anything should happen, Budget would wave the administration fees and loss of use fees. Clearly they did not.
After speaking with their claims department, no one could explain to me why we were being charged for two tires. After asking about the company's policy on maintaining the vehicles tires, they still had no answers.
Does Budget leave the responsibility of tire changes on their customers? Do they wait until the tires blow out while being rented and have the customer pay for it? I surely hope not. After this ordeal, my husband and I have vowed to not rent from Budget again.
