DirecTV Inc Complaint - Unauthorized Withdrawal Of Money From Bank Using Debit Card
CHARLESTON, SOUTH CAROLINA -- I had brought my account up to date and due to the economy was trying to figure out how to reduce monthly expenses. My monthly amount seemed to continually creep upward. The salesman would not let me suspend my account as I requested until things got better, even though I was a long time customer. He demanded that I pay a full month rental, because they bill in advance and they would shut off my service until I was ready. I explained that I had just paid my bill, didn't matter. I said OK just remove the service and when things got better I would just re-install. He then stated that because I got a new piece of equipment in January, they would have to charge me two years penalty fees. I told him 'no way', I had just replaced a broken receiver and that I was still on my original contract. I asked him to send me a bill outlining charges but instead they zapped my account for $460.00 because they still had my debit card information on file which I had only used a few times to pay them with. I had already demanded that they send me a paper bill and not to use my debit card.
So they made an unauthorized withdrawal on my account, the very next day, without warning or notice. The only reason I knew was my account is set up to send me an email if the balance goes below a certain amount. When I called them after many hours on hold, back and forth, they stated they would send me a box to return their equipment, and that they had made a mistake and would refund my money in six to eight weeks. I am on a fixed income and that totally zapped my account, over drew my account and cost me $32 INF charge. The money was obviously quickly taken out as a vendetta for cancelling my account. You think you could trust a company the size of DirecTV. The phone operators would not even pass me on to a supervisor, but instead put me on hold for 45 minutes.
I feel that they stole my money as if they had held me up with a gun. I can't even put money in my account with out the fear that they will simply steal it.
