ROSWELL, GEORGIA -- After owning a front loading washer for the past year and a half I noticed black gunk collecting around the front rubber seal. When I peeled back the seal I found A HUGE DEPOSIT OF BLACK MOLD.
Some of it comes off with bleach, I also used Tilex, vinegar, etc. I am now trying a new product called Affresh.
I called GE service and the technician told me that this is a common problem. You have to wipe out the rubber seal with bleach after use and leave the door open to dry the inside. It cost $69.95 to hear that bit of news. It would have cost $334.87 to replace the seal.
This is nuts. They poorly engineer something, then make more money selling you service for it. AND they make a new product to sell you to clean it.
