China buffet Complaint - Bloody Bandaide Found In My Food

Review by smoster on 2009-03-29
RIDLEY, PENNSYLVANIA -- My brother in law had gone to this Chinese restaurant about a mile from the house and had gotten food for him his wife and their daughter. He had come home and they had sat down to eat when my sister in law came up stairs and had told me she found a small bloody bandaid in her beef and broccoli I was appalled at this as she has been going to this place since it had opened up. She first thought maybe it was an onion or a piece of plastic but no it was a small bandaid with a blood stain on it I tried calling Action 6 News had to leave a message called the police and they asked me to bring it in so they took a report and took the bandaide it would have been fine but the were absolutely rude and acted as if they did not care. Who knows if this person had hep A B or C aids or HIV unknowingly knowing what this person had. I went up to the restaurant where they had gotten the food and they told us that it was not from them and that anyone could have put it in there. Gave us the money back for the food after my sister in law had shoved the food in their face and told them that she took the bandaid to the police.

They seemed upset and angry and tried covering it up when you know its there fault. It's now Sunday and I have to wait until Monday to call the health inspector back I am angry and not only that but disgusted please if you ever visit Ridley Pennsylvania never eat at the China Buffet located on Mcdade blvd in the Mcdade shopping center.

It probably came off of a cat's paw.

Ok wow that is the longest sentence I have ever seen. Now you take it to the police and they did what with it? I know there is a retired sheriff on this site so hopefully we will get a response from him on this. I could be wrong but I do not see what the police will do with the band aid as you have no proof it was in the food at all. The health inspector will take a report from you, go down and do a brief (all of about 10 minute) inspection and then write it off as they will find nothing.

did you contact the local health department?

Where I live, this would give the cops something to do to hone their investigational skills. I wonder if they did a DNA test?

I would be grossed out too. And I would have taken my food back to the restaurant with the bloody bandaid and shown them. I might have called the Health Dept, but it depends, since you said they've gone to this place since it had opened...it must have been fine every other time, right? Calling the police was a little over the top, don't you think? What were they going to do? Arrest them and charge them with bloody bandaid misdemeanor?

If you're worried about hepatitis/HIV/etc, then you probably shouldn't ever eat at another restaurant for the rest of your life, as people cut themselves all the time.

What did I do? You're the one that said it probably came off a cat's paw! LOL

Oh, C20, what's a bloody bandaid between friends? Anyway, I, too, can see why the OP is grossed out. I probably wouldn't eat out anywhere for a while after that.

But I've eaten cat! People bleeding is a whole different animal.

C2O, you have rendered me speechless. I guess you could say the cat got my tongue!

The cat's had my tongue a time or two!

I can't understand this need to call the police over stupid civil matters. They've got better things to do, and if they don't..they should.

I can certainly see why you are upset, but what exactly do the police have to do with this. The proper authority is the Department of Health. Also, I would contact my own physician to see if there is anything I need to do.
http://www.agriculture.state.pa.us/agriculture/cwp/view.asp?a=3&q=137994 This is a link where you can see the Health Inspectors report on PA restaurants. I could not find a China Buffet in Ridley, PA on this list.

You can't expect the restaurant to just outright admit guilt. As they stated, anyone could have put that there. Contact the health department. Its the obvious thing to do. I am not sure what you expected the police to do. BTW: You should have kept the food for the health department. They may have wanted to see it. At this point, the health department can probably only do 2 things: one, investigate whether someone in the restaurant has an injury that requires a bandaid and two, ensure the restaurant is up to health and cleanliness codes.

You say you've eaten there for a long time. What does that really matter. I'm sure they're not in the habit of leaving a band-aid in every dish. It's not like a fortune cookie where you can be sure that you get something inside. As the others have said, the health dept. would be the best way to go. I do feel sorry for you though. This would totally gross me out and traumatize me from eating out anywhere for a long time. I know it happens just don't like thinking about it. I really hope there doesn't happen to be anything health hazard wise that is serious to anyone who ate the food.

'(I)...called the police and they asked me to bring it in...''...so not my fault for involing them...' You very definitely *did* get them involved. And, I'm curious: If this happened to your sister-in-law, why isn't she writing this complaint? I agree with AlleyS. It's silly getting police involved in this 'major crime.' The police should have been called when your sister-in-law 'shoved the food in their face...' Isn't much crime in your area, is there? If I called my local Police Department with such a ridiculous complaint, they'd probably laugh at me and hang up. And I'd agree with them.
