MIAMI, FLORIDA -- It sickens me to remember the incident - a young man being beaten up by Costco plain clothes over a warranty card the young man picked up from a game display.
Of course the city police came to the store, you could see the cars parked outside but too late to stop the bruises and kicks given to the young man in the office in the front of the Costco store. It was a gang scene, victim on the floor, kicks and punches going on and on.
I witnessed this in Miami, Fl. I witnessed it because I saw the beginning and watched out to see what developed. The Costco in question is near a big car dealership, Palmeto Highway. I noticed the police did not seem to see picking up a warranty card as a crime as the injured young man was not arrested.
This note is meant as a helpful warning to all of you who like to taste grapes before you buy them, or try on clothes before you buy them, and whatever other consumer testing you might do; you'll never know who is watching you and how big a crime they think you are committing as Costco tells their employees that they, the employees, are the owners of the business and to protect the store, which leads to these excesses.
You hear about police brutality - it happens in stores as well, Costco being no exception. Careful everyone when you go there. Careful.
