Pacificare/United Health Care Complaint - Terrible Experience
CALIFORNIA -- Dear Health Insurance Consumers, Please read my personal experience before deciding to choose Pacificare/United Health Care as an insurance provider. I remember my experience with United Health Care right out of college and it wasn't a wonderfully happy memory. I remember thinking, why do I have this health insurance company when I have to spend so much of my time calling and straightening things out with their computer systems which had failed to update or phone conversations with representatives which had misinformed me. I was totally unprepared handling an insurance company like this one-because growing up we always had wonderful health insurance companies which were straight forward. Fortunately- I changed jobs and did not have to deal with United Healthcare anymore- at least for awhile.
In the last 5 years we had Pacificare and I wanted to say that this was a wonderful company before United Healthcare took over. Our experience before United Healthcare took over was superb.
Then United took over and what I would describe as a bothersome, and bordering on hellish experience took over.
There is something really strange about this company. Here are some of the bizarre things we have experienced in the last 6 months. Oh by the way- when we were searching for Pediatricians- one of the Pediatricians told me that starting when United Health Care took over, he would not be with Pacificare anymore because they were planning to cut the doctor's pay. He also ventured to imply corruption with United HealthCare and He cited the CEO's recent Bonus- which was astronomical. And recently, when my husband spoke to his doctor- the doctor admitted that Pacificare/United Healthcare pays "peanuts" to doctors. Is that the way our Doctor's, who look after our families, should be treated?
And for the past six months- every month our family has been terminated- even after making our full and accurate payments on time!!!!!!!!! We spend two days each month over the phone trying to straighten the problem out and they site a "problem with updating the system". And get this- each time we are transferred 3 or 4 x.
Here is an example of the last time I called:
"Hello, Thank You For Calling Pacificare."
"Your member number please"
"I'm sorry Ma'am this call center does not answer calls coming from California. I'm sorry for the inconvenience. Let me transfer you. One moment".
wait. wait. a few seconds
"Hello. Thank-you for calling Pacificare. Your employee number please."
"What?, I'm not an employee of Pacificare, I'm a member."
"Oh, I'm sorry ma'am this call center only deals with calls from employees"
"Oh, well I was transferred here"
"I'm sorry ma'am for the inconvenience. I apologize. Let me transfer you".
"Hello. Thank-you for calling Pacificare. Your member number please."
"O. K. before we begin- I need to ask you a couple of questions. Do you take calls coming from California and I am a member and not an employee will you still take my call?-because I've already been transferred 2 times and these reasons we're cited."
"Oh, I'm sorry ma'am. You have been transferred to the wrong call center. I'm so sorry. I will get you to the right person".
Third time being transferred.
"Hello. Thank-you for calling Pacificare"
I proceed to ask the same 2 questions from the above paragraph and it turns out that I finally do have the right person to speak with and they inform me that the system shows that we have been terminated. We then proceed to spend another 2 days of phone calls trying to get to the bottom of this. Then a few days later everything appears to be straightened out "their systems are updated".
We have gone through this process of their "systems" not "updating" and showing termination 5 x !!!!!!!!!!!!!! Can you believe this?!!!!!!!!!!!
Something is very fishy. Please Be Aware before considering United Health Care. I would love to see a full investigation of the accounting, business practices and the lobbyists they work with. Even if no corruption is found- would you still want to be with a health insurance that is so inefficient in protecting and helping their customers and who is also under paying their doctors?
Also if you work for United Healthcare- please consider first the company you are working for. Are they ethical? Are you being asked to do things that are not making any sense? If so- consider leaving and find a company that practices morals, ethics or is at least efficient and fair in providing service to its customers and doctors.
Best of Luck on your search for Health Care or employment with a great company.
