OFEK U.S.A. INC Electronics Store, 73 E Flagler St Miami FL 33131 Complaint - Selling Used Laptop And Passing It Off As New

Review by redwoman on 2009-04-24
I was a visitor to Miami with a one day stopover. I asked the dealer for a 3gig ram Sony Vaio laptop, he assured me that he had just the thing, and I purchased it for someone. When I got home to Trinidad I found out that not only was the laptop 1gig but it was a used computer with family photos and downloaded music albums on it. You can imagine my disappointment at being ripped off. I tried calling the store but to no avail, I also tried to contact Sony about their dishonest dealer but all I got was a recording about their products.

Can anyone give me an email address for Sony customer service department and also the consumer affairs department, I intend to write letters to anyone who will listen and bring these folks to justice.

So long for now.

Nice Supes, this just goes to show that most of us are not just here to 'huck' things up and really do mean 'bizness' when replying on these complaints! Nice and a big fat (BA)!!!

I always check computers before I leave a store, even if they are brand new out of the box, to ensure I am getting what I am paying for and that the product works properly.

This is a clear-cut bait and switch, contact the Florida Office of the Attorney General, since the store is based there.

Soaring, as we've discussed before.. bait and switch is advertising one computer then claiming its not available and switching the customer's attention to another, more expensive model.

This sounds like a return was restocked and had been previously used.

Yeah it sounds like they baited the OP with an offer of an awesome computer but then switched it with a piece of junk. I hate it when people bait and switch me like that.

Hello friends
Thanks for the advice, let me know who else can help eg email addresses where I can lodge my complaint. I also have my receipt for the purchase. I guess the ripoff happened since I could not speak spanish, when they were discussing, although the sales was done in English.

Hi all

I contacted the Consumer Affairs Division, their response was great and they handled the complaint very quickly. They got a response from the dealer who is quite willing to replace the computer. My problem is what am I going to get in exchange, a refurbished one this time, as you will realise I am quite skeptical this time around. I have replied to the officer in charge of the case by asking who is going to ensure that I get a new computer with the specs I asked for in the first place. If any of you guys could give me an email address for the Attorney General Office and also Sony customer services department.

Thank You Guys for all your support and I will keep you in the loop.
