Earl Scheib Complaint - Stay Away - Paint Job

Review by OZ350Z on 2009-05-06
Earl scheib, located on irving park and western in chicago is where I took my nissan 350z to spot paint a couple of spots that were keyed. They gave me an ok price, but a year and one month later the paint has started to crack/peel off.

When I picked up my car the person that worked on it got "bondo" (sp) or some kind or filling mud all over my mats and steering wheel, the car was dusty but looked repaired and ok. A few months later I noticed the paint looked wavy, or what is known as "orange peel." (Surface is unsmooth like an orange). I could live with that cause that can be color sanded to look better but the fact that the paint is now coming of is totally unacceptable. I've asked then to repair it but they did not stand behind their work.

I called them and they said "it is out of warranty and that those types of paint jobs on bumper don't last that long now-a-days." I guess they expect people to repaint their cars every year...That what everyone does right.

I would recommend to stay away from this place if you are looking for quality work. I wouldn't let these guys paint my fence.

Besides that the shop is a mess and their customer service was very poor

try strearling in rolling meadows or auto art in glenview

My mom at one time had a 1957 Ford Ranchwagon, and took it to Earl Scheib to see how much it would cost to have it fixed and painted. The guy who did the estimate told her there was quite a bit of cancer, or rust, that needed to be repaired first, but that was pretty expensive. He said he could do the work at his place for a considerable saving, then the paint job could be done for less. The car looked great when mom picked it up. About a week later it rained, and mom got in the car to go to work, and when she shut the door she heard a clunk. Turns out the guy had stuffed newspaper into the rocker panels, then bondoed over it. When it got wet, the newspaper fell apart. She was as much to blame as the worker, but he was a slime, anyway.
