Mexicana, Orbitz Complaint - Don't Book Online - Travel

Review by Peter52252 on 2009-05-06
We were supposed to go to Cancun for my brother's wedding in June but since the swine flu hit, nobody wants to go. We are trying to change our flights to another destination but the airline (Mexicana) is asking for $100 change fee..they are only changing flights from Apr.24 - May 15 with no change fee..before it was May 6..They are only extending this window for 9 days...while other airlines have it till May 31st or further. And do not book online..I know it's easier but there is hardly any flexibility... my brother booked his flight through a travel agency..and the travel agent was able to change him with no fees even though his carrier window only extends till May 31st.

I booked through Orbitz..They want me to pay Mexicana $100 per ticket and they want a fee also $30 per ticket...I am supposed to pay $130 per ticket right now. I am never booking through the web again!!

Your mistake was using a third-party agent such as Orbitz to book your flight. When a change has to be made there are, as you found out, lots of extra fees assessed. Always book directly with the airline or an agent. Just because other airlines are being more lenient doesn't mean all of them have to follow the leader. The swine flu or H1N1 is turning out to be no worse than any other flu.

100% agree with PB.

PB is correct, plus almost all of the world health organizations say this flu will have played out within the next couple of weeks.

i never can understand why people don't use real live travel agents anymore! i have used mine for 20 years and she has helped on many occasions. i, too, was booked with MX amd was able to cancel with no penalty and i was to travel in july. maybe you should check with MX directly? i think it is awful they would not give you a full redund!(sless the booking fee, of course) travel agents charge about $25.00 per ticket, but it is well worth it! they do all the research and get the lowest fare and in time like this, help if you have to cancel or change a flight. might want to think about using a travel agent in the fure!

Nothing deceptive here. As far as other airlines' policies, they do not govern Mexicana's. You agreed to the terms and conditions, the $100 is the typical change fee that Mexicana charges. The $30 is the extra booking fee and Orbitz charges. Mexicana won't change them for you since you booked with Orbitz, so now you're stuck with the extra charges. Read your contract's terms.....

rudy, those little dot dot dot remarks you're leaving on different reviews are so frustrating for me (...) My mouse won't allow me to click on the link, I think its too small, so I cannot even see what you're commenting on. Help a girl out!
