Midas Complaint - Midas - Front End rip off
ST. LOUIS PARK, MINNESOTA -- Went to Midas in St. Louis Park, MN for a crunching noise coming from the front end. Midas put in a bid at over $900 to replace upper and lower ball joints on both sides (not including alignment). Since it was a little more than I was expecting, I brought it to the dealership we bought it from to have them take a look. Not mentioning that we had Midas take a look at it, and just explained the problem, they checked it out and found the problem to be a loose steering column bolt. When I asked about the ball joints (and mentioned the midas quote), they brought me out under my suv and showed me the ball joints and that they were perfectly fine. the dealership tightened the bolt at no charge and gave me an alignment for $65.00. So basically, Midas would have either just tightened the bolt and charged me $900, or replaced the working ball joints and I would still be having the problem... Either way is grossly incompetent if not fraudulent.
Earlier, at the same Midas, I brought a different car in to have a thermostat replaced and they cracked the housing... had to talk them out of the labor charge to fix it.
All in all, I am disappointed in the lack of competence at Midas and have no reason to ever do business with the company again.
