TheMovieExperience.com - The Downtown Theater SLO Complaint - A Ripoff To Everybody, Movie Tickets Too Expensive!

Review by jackjuno on 2009-05-20
SAN LUIS OBISPO, CALIFORNIA -- I thoroughly agree, the prices keeps going up but the service keeps going down. Yes the theater was nice when it first opened back in 1994 but nothing has been changed since 1994 considering it is 2009 now. The price of tickets are $9.50 now and manatee's are $8.50 which the time used to be 6pm by they lowered to 4pm. Wow! Talk about a rip-off! No discounts either.

They raise and raise the price but they haven't updated anything in the place. What’s the point to raise they're prices if they haven't changed anything. It seems their customer service has gotten worse and worse. I agree, they like people talk on cell phones, feet on the chairs, allow people to talk during the movies and they allow staff to due their homework on the ticket counter table. What kind of place is that?

Sure the Fremont theater maybe nice but the people owner it, aren't doing much to save it. They don't clean the place very well but because they own the Downtown theater, it is a shame that such owners want to treat the theater like a college dorm room. Since the theater is run by all college students, thats exactly what it is, is a college dorm room.

I hate the SLO downtown theater or the movieexperience. What experience is it? Come up guys, fix the place up, do something with those outrageous ticket fees or lower the price. For the price what I pay, I can buy movie tickets on EBay for $4.00 to $3.00 at about a dozen tickets for Arroyo Grande Regal theater. Yes they are a rip-off too but at least they have a membership option and discounts and better seating, real theater ushers who check the theaters for cell phones, talking, feet on chairs and more. The SLO downtown movieexperience doesn't do any of that. They are just awful!

then rent movies, or watch pay-per-view.

The last movie I saw in a theater was Days Of Thunder, about 1990, so I guess I wouldn't know what to compare the place to.

"What’s the point to raise they're prices if they haven't changed anything." Have you heard of a little word "inflation"? Costs go up over 15 years. Sucks that they haven't updated anything as far as the looks of the theater, but there are other rising costs that have to be covered as well.

We only go to the theater for major "blockbuster" releases (the new Star Trek & Terminator for example), just can't deal with the narcissistic "people" that fill theaters today.

First-run theaters don't control the ticket price. The movie distributors either 'rent' or lease the films. In some instances where the studio feels they have a blockbuster they may rent screens in theaters. The theater gets a percentage of sales. I can't stand those who text during a movie. New phrase for them is 'mexting'. Don't those morons realize the cell screen glows? Last time I went to see a movie I had no problem telling an idiot to stop texting because I paid to see the film not his cell screen.

Okay, call me the English Police if you must but an afternoon movie is a matinee; a manatee is a marine mammal also called a sea cow. They're cute little critters, though, and certainly worth more than $8.50.

CJ, maybe the OP went to the zoo expecting to see a movie? :)

$9.50 is about the going rate I see these days.It is expensive for a movie that will be on DVD in less than a year..

TW, some movies just can't wait though. I had to go to theatres to see all of the Lord of the Rings movies, and probably will have to see the new Star Trek movie there too.

There is nothing like sitting in the middle of that deafening sound with a bag of good popcorn and falling into a good movie (especially one with good effects!).

I see all the pixar kid movies at the theatre,I go because my daughter loves the movies...The last one was Monsters V Aliens...good movie!

I still use my student discount from the community college I went to 6 years ago. It knocks a few bucks off the price.

C2O, you really haven't been to a theater in 17 years? You need to get out more

I really like those myself. Took me forever to get around to Wall-e, but I just loved it.

And anything with Scrat, the Ice Age squirrel, from Blue Skies..

I haven't been to a drive-in in years and years and I really miss them. We had a Rambler station wagon and all us kids would be in our pj's...lol

It was just thrilling to be allowed to go swing on the swing set there in our pajamas! Good times..

This place is huge ripoff concerning how outdated the place is and they are still charging $9.50 for mantinee times after 2PM and they charge full price on weekends, that includes Friday before 2PM. Certainty what they want you to pay, you can get a lot more value somewhere else. I have not been there in the last two months as I was not able to get to Pismo Beach Regal theater on time, ended up going to the Downtown theater and they charged me $9.50 after 2pm, sucks. First thing I went in and the theater was a quarter full, not even 10 people in it and they want $9.50 a ticket. Total ripoff.

I suggest personally to take camera, take photos of the theater on the outside and put it on Youtube how much a ripoff this place is. I asked the manager if they could fix the audio and they said they would but it sounded like crap.

They should find some other owners and lower the price to get the place moving again with some upgrades to the place too.
