Verizon- DSL Complaint - DSL and lack of costomer service

LAST SUMMER, 2003, I WAS THINKING OF PURCHASING A NEW COMPUTER AND SO I WAS WONDERING WHAT TO DO FOR MY PROVIDER, DSL OR CABLE. I LIVE OUT IN THE BURBS SO "AT WORK" I WENT ON TO A UNION SPONSORED SITE AND HAPPEN TO SEE A AD "CHECK IF DSL IS IN YOUR AREA" SO I DID. WELL IT WAS. BUT AS I ONLY HAD A VERY OLD COMPUTER AT THE TIME I WAS STILL TRYING TO WAIT TO SIGN UP FOR ANYTHING. WHAT TO MY SURPRISE, JUST A COUPLE WEEKS LATER I RECIEVE A MODEM IN THE MAIL FROM VERIZON. WELL I DIDNT ORDER IT. I ASKED MY HUSBAND AND HE DIDNT ORDER IT. ONLY THING I CAN THINK OF THAT WHEN I WAS INQUIRING ABOUT IF IT WAS AVAIL IN MY AREA I MAY HAVE HIT A BUTTON WRONG, I REALLY DONT REMEMBER A BUTTON OR A CHOICE THAT OFFERED TO ORDER IT NOW BUT I AM WILLING TO SAY THAT WAS POSSIBLE ( AND FRANKLY I AM TOO SCARED TO GO BACK AND LOOK AS MAYBE THIS WOULD ALL DOUBLE). I CALLED VERIZON AND AFTER BEING TRANSFERED SEVERAL TIMES AND LEFT ON HOLD FOR AN ETERNATY I WAS GIVING A CODE TO PUT ON A RETURN RECIEPT AND THEN I SENT BACK THE MODEM. WELL ON MY NEXT BILL WHAT TO MY SURPRISE BUT I AM BEING BILLED FOR THE MODEM AND... THEY ACTIVATED THIS DSL ACCOUNT! HENCE MY NIGHT MARE TAKES OVER. IT TOOK ME UNTIL DECEMBER (CALLING EVERY FEW WEEKS) TO GET THEM TO TURN OFF THE ACCOUNT I NEVER AUTHORIZED NOR ORDERED FOR A MODEM I HAD LONG SINCE SENT BACK. NOTE.. I NEVER USED THIS ACCOUNT EVEN! I GOT A COMFIRMATION NUMBER AND WAS TOLD THAT IT WOULD TAKE 3 BILLING CYCLES FOR IT TO COME OFF MY BILL. SO JAN, IT WAS THERE, FEB IT WAS THERE, MARCH IT WAS THERE, AND IN APRIL WHEN IT IS STILL THERE I CALLED AGAIN. FIRST OF ALL I WAS PASSED AROUND 3 DIFFERENT PEOPLE FINALLY I WAS CONNECTED W/ A GENTLEMAN WHO WAS SO BEYOND RUDE TO ME, I WAS NEARLY SPEECHLESS. HE TOLD ME IT WAS UP TO ME TO "PROVE I NEVER USED THIER SERVICE" AND WHEN I ASKED TO SPEAK TO HIS SUPERVISOR HE FLAT OUT REFUSED. HE REPLIED THEY LEFT AND WOULD NOT BE RETURNING THAT HE WAS THE ONLY ONE THERE (WHY DO I FIND THAT HARD TO BELIEVE.) HE DID GIVE ME A NAME AND A NUMBER TO CALL BACK DURING NORMAL BUSINESS HOURS ( GUESS WHAT, NEVER HAVE I BEEN ABLE TO REACH ANYONE AT THE NUMBER HE GAVE ME). SO NOT ONLY DID THIS "CUSTOMER SERVICE SPECIALIST" CALL ME A LIAR AND TELL ME THAT VERIZON UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES CREDITS BILLS AT ALL, HE THEN PROCEEDED TO HANG UP ON ME AS I WAS TELLING HIM THAT MY NEXT CALL WOULD BE TO THE STATES ATTORNEY GENERAL'S OFFICE WHERE I WOULD BE REPORTING THE FRAUD, IF I COULD NOT GET ANY SATISFACTION... I HAVE NEVER EVER BEEN TREATED SO RUDELY BY ANY COMPANY OR FOR THAT MATTER BY ANY PERSON.

I CERTAINLY UNDERSTAND MISTAKES HAPPEN, BUY A COMPANY SHOULD LOOK FOR WAYS TO CORRECT THEM NOT TELL THEIR CLIENTS, THEIR VERY LIVELYHOOD THAT THEY ARE LIARS AND STUCK WITH THE ERROR. I DON'T KNOW HOW THEY STAY IN BUSINESS.

I HAVE SENSE BOUGHT A NEW COMPUTER AND SIGNED UP WITH COMCAST CABLE. AND WOW! THEY HAVE GONE OUT OF THEIR WAY TO MAKE ME HAPPY.

i like my verizon dsl. if you have your phone through them you get a price break. very fast too...im at 2 megs per sec.
